Tuskys Supermarkets, in partnership with Artemis Outsourcing, National Youth Service and Utalii college has announced that it will be offering a 5 year internship program with an aim to accommodate 7,500 interns broken down into 1,500 per year for 5 years.
In a perfectly gender balanced arrangement, the program will hire 50% women and 50% men. This program is the first of its kind in Kenya’s retail sector and is a God send especially in an employment culture that is always asking for work experience out of fresh graduates. This internship will offer the youth that much needed experience. The retail giant’s end game is to establish a retail university in Kenya with time.
The lucky interns who will get picked for this internship will be paid Kshs.15,000/- per month and holders of either diplomas, degrees or KCSE certificate graduates are eligible to apply. All applicants have to be Kenyan. The cost of training each candidate for a month is about Kshs.83,000/- and total annual investment on Tusky’s part will be Kshs.154m.
The chosen graduates will leave the internship with skills on bakery production, how to sell, and how to run a fresh produce business and what’s more, Tuskys plans to employ upto 50% of them into the company.
