Earth Hour,(www.earthhour.org) which is celebrated globally every last Saturday of March, was started by World Wide Fund for Nature in 2007 as a lights-off event to raise awareness about climate change. It encourages individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. as a symbol for their commitment to the planet.
As time goes by, technology is slowly taking over our day to day lives. Today technology affects almost all aspects of our daily routines with digital devices such as TVs, microwaves, fridges and many others. Our sex life is a big part of our existence as social beings and slowly devices have encroached into our this part of our life – chief among them being the mobile phones.
A lot of debate has ensued on whether technology has positively or negatively affected our sex life. There is argument for both sides of the coin though. Technology through social media and other platforms has made it easier for us to communicate and “connect” with members of society. You can meet and interact with total strangers and there even apps that help you pick up total strangers who would be interested in having a sexual relationship with you.
On the other end, we have slowly lost the human touch of our social interactions due to technology with some countries going to the extent of trying to motivate their young population to have sex.
One of the corporations, heavily reliant on people having sexual relations, advocating for us to monitor how technology affects our sex lives is Durex. Durex is the #1 sexual well being brand worldwide. The brand not only produces condoms which exceeds global testing standards, but also offers pleasure gels, lubricants and personal massagers.
The brand is now inviting its customers to sample their new ‘Durex Connect‘ during this years Earth Hour. The Durex Connect app offers a simple solution: it synchronizes phones to sleep together, so couples can too. The app will thus allow couples to hit two birds with one stone during Earth Hour by symbolizing their commitment to the planet while also saving some technology-free time for them to reignite the flame to their sex lives.
The app is currently available for free on Google Play Store and is compatible with Android smart phones, and will be out soon on iOS. It provides a user-friendly way to synchronize your phone with your partner’s, so that neither can renege on the promise of dedicated, tech-free connection. At agreed times, or by spontaneous agreement, it will simply mask your phones’ home screen, effectively putting the handsets to sleep and removing all distractions.
The hope is to mitigate how technology affects our sex lives by helping couple reignite the human touch that is so vital to healthy sexual relationships.
