Microsoft has launched yet another deviMariam Abdullahi and King'ori Gitahice for the price and value conscious smartphone users; the Lumia 540 Dual SIM a device intended to help people stay productive on the go with Microsoft services such as Skype and Office available pre-loaded.

The smartphone upgradable to Windows 10 when the service becomes available later this year features a crisp, clear, 5-inch HD display; 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash; and 5-megapixel front-facing camera that’s great for taking wide-angle selfies.

Microsoft Mobile Devices General Manager, Mariam Abdullahi who was in attendance cited the growth of the Lumia portfolio with an estimated 1.8m smartphones sold in Kenya in the year 2014 which has given a great opportunity for the discerning middle class Kenyan to own a smartphone that helps them increase their productivity in their personal and work life.

Fun and Work on the go

Currently available in black, the Lumia 540 Dual SIM offers compelling mobile experiences to work with on the go with a feature to instantly upgrade phone calls into video calls with the touch of a button using the pre-loaded skype service and front-facing camera.

Users will also be in a position to connect with work by tapping into the Microsoft Outlook and personal e-mail with the built-in Microsoft Outlook. The device will also have the privilege to save and sync photos, videos and Office documents securely with up to 30GB of free cloud storage with built-in OneDrive.

Lumia 540 Dual SIM also gives you the freedom to personalise the home screen with all your favourite apps including Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Minecraft and many more available from Windows Phone Store.


A study conducted by Microsoft’s partner Jumia Kenya discloses that top smartphone purchase drivers include Battery capacity, brand type, Camera / imaging capability and price. Going for a retail price of Ksh17,800, the promising device offers HD display, front and rear cameras,great apps, and Microsoft Office, Skype and OneDrive built-in, the Lumia 540 Dual SIM.

The 5 inch screen device operates on Windows 8.1 with Lumia Denim. The screen is HD Laminated (1280 x 720, 16:9), 294 PPI. The device has a replaceable battery with a capacity of 2200mAh. Lumia 540 Dual runs on a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm snapdragon 200 processor with a memory of 1GB RAM, 8GB internal mass memory up to 128 GB Micro SD. Also, users can use the One Drive built-in +30GB free cloud storage.

Similar to any Lumia device available in Kenya, users who purchase Lumia 540 between now and 7th July 2015, will be eligible to enter the ongoing #Achievemore consumer campaign that is rewarding customers with five Chevrolet Cruze cars and 40 Lumia 640 XL devices. So far, two winners – Cornelius Kiprop and Mercy Wanjiru– have been awarded and three cars remain.
