The Bake Awards gala event took place at the Radison Blu Hotel in Upperhill, on Saturday night, 14th of May, from 6pm to 10pm. During this time, results of the voting were finally revealed. The submissions this year saw about 4,899 blogs entered into the competition, which was then trimmed down to just 5 blogs per category. From these came the winning bloggers of the year, which you can find out for yourself here. The gala was all made possible by sponsors such as Safaricom, Xpose, EatOut, Samsung, Coca-Cola, Intel, Kenya Bankers Association, Uber and Mettā which made the experience even more eventful.
Judges this time around included Ahmed Salim, Terry Anne Chebet, Mikul Shah & Muthoni Maingi. This year lifeinmombasa.com won in the County Category, thereby becoming the first blog from Mombasa to ever win in the competition. We had also seen Jackson Biko of bikozulu.co.ke once again maintain his throne among the blog award winners, by obtaining the Kenyan Blog of the Year and Best Creative Writing Blog! Other winners included Best Food Blogger Kaluhi Adagala of www.kaluhiskitchen.com, and Ghafla as the Best Entertainment and Lifestyle Blog.
The voting process and award event are all part of BAKE’s general initiative to appreciate the growing online community seen in Kenya. The event saw more than 400 people in attendance to appreciate the blog winners as they made their victory speeches. The ambiance was spacious and colorful with just about everyone dressed up in African attire as per the dress code. Everyone at the event enjoyed a free drink worth Kshs 250 as they socialized amongst themselves. Several big names were in attendance, both from the online and offline community. Delicious food and desert was then feasted upon towards the end of the event, ensuring attendees left satisfied and psyched up for the rest of their Saturday evening.
