DKT International is one of the largest private providers of family planning products and services in the developing world. They unveiled their products at a lavish ceremony held at the Sarova Stanley Hotel, Nairobi Kenya this Wednesday.

The launch marked the company’s entry into the reproductive health sector in Kenya and their office will serve both Kenya and neighbouring Uganda.

DKT launched its condom brands Kiss and Fiesta, oral contraceptives, Intrauterine Devices (IUD’s) and injectable contraceptives. The contraceptive pills, injectables and Intrauterine Devices  will be trading under the brand name Lydia and the condom range of products previously mentioned will be available in a variety of price points to meet customer needs across all demographics.

Contraceptive prevalence rate (CPR) – “The percentage of women who are currently using, or whose sexual partner is currently using, at least one method of contraception, regardless of the method used. It is usually reported for married or in-union women aged 15 to 49.” WHO

DTK seeks to bridge the CPR gap in Kenya and Uganda is 58% and 27% respectively; These percentages depict a huge gap in access to inexpensive modern contraception.

A large inequality in contraception access exists throughout the country between rural and urban populations with the unmet needs remaining highest among the youth and low socio-economic groups.

“We intend to revolutionize the private sector market by introducing a full method mix of high quality and affordable contraceptives”- Collin Dick (DKT Managing Director, Kenya and Uganda)

During the launch, the chief guest, Dr. Stephen Kaliti (Ministry of Health Deputy head) applauded DKT’s entry into the market, terming it as a timely one as the government executes its strategies to fulfil its commitment to FP2020 made at the 2012 London summit.

Since its inception, DKT international has been promoting family planning and HIV prevention with programs in the world’s most populous countries that contain 60% of the world’s population.
