Last year, Safaricom created a new and ambitious network for the young crowd between 10 to 26 years of age. This was after extensive customer research that showed that this age group had different needs in terms of communication and needed a product of their own which gave them freedom and flexibility to use their Safaricom products like airtime and data.
Along with the birth of the BLAZE came BLAZE summits, nationwide youth meetups aimed to tap into youth talents and build onto them through an equally ambitious initiative dubbed Be Your Own Boss – BYOB. BYOB comes complete with a TV show where the youth showcase their ideas and business prowess on National TV for a chance to win a top cash prize of Kshs.5m, as well as non-cash rewards like mentorship, training and networking among other benefits. Overall this equips the youth with skills and confidence, and gives them further push to achieve their goals in life.
It is at the BLAZE summits that the youth from around the country get to audition for the BLAZE B.Y.O.B TV show. They also get to meet mentors in different fields.
Last Saturday Safaricom held its fourth regional summit of BLAZE BYOB Season Two at Machakos Stadium, Machakos County. This was after Meru, Nakuru and Eldoret and BLAZE summit is next headed to Mombasa on 25th November at the Mombasa Sports Club.
The youth from Machakos and its environs got an opportunity to get entertained, interact with mentors, hear their stories, learn from the journey and get inspiration across their own fields of interest.
Here in pictures is how it went down in Machakos. The theme for this year’s summits is G.R.I.T – Greatness Requires Internal Toughness.
