Safaricom customers who are on the fiber program have every reason to smile after the giant telecommunications moved to harmonize prices, making them more affordable with increased speeds.

According to a statement from Safaricom, the new internet packages seek to provide uninterrupted, high speed connectivity for small to medium sized businesses at affordable costs.

Under the new pricing structure, the company has introduced three new options from as low as 3,999 shillings for 3 Mbps monthly unlimited internet connectivity delivered through Safaricom fiber. The other options in the new package include 5,499 shillings for 5 Mbps and 14,999 shillings for 10 Mbps.

Safaricom has already connected close to 3,000 buildings to its proprietary fiber infrastructure and plans to have another 1,500 buildings connected by March 2020.

As Safaricom marked its 19th birthday, it changed its brand promise to simple, transparent and honest in an effort to give more products and services to their customers. For the first time, the company rolled out the internet data with no expiry date, giving customers the freedom of purchasing data and using it without having to worry when it will expire.

Safaricom introduced a single calling and SMS plan, and a single data plan for all customers and in an industry first, both plans offer calling minutes and SMS, and data bundles with no expiry. Customers can also purchase calling minutes, SMS, and data bundles for any amount from as low as KES 1, upon which they can see how much resources they will get before the purchase is completed.

The company also increased its data bundle sizes by more than 45 percent especially for the more affordable price points of between KES 1 and KES 20 and in addition to the Data Manager where customers can choose between higher and lower data speeds, Safaricom will also inform customers when they are charged for premium services.

The usage and uptake of social media platforms such as the WhatsApp and Facebook have grown significantly over the last year according to AJUA’s third quarterly Customer Loyalty Industry Benchmark for 2019.

The third quarterly Customer Loyalty Industry Benchmark for 2019 also indicated that some of the customers in the Telco industries are substituting normal calls with WhatsApp calls which are cheaper only requiring good internet connection.

Safaricom, Kenya’s biggest Telco Company took first place in the Telco industry with an NPS of 31. Customers rated the company highly for its internet offers and promotions with the Dabo Dabo, Storo bonus and tunukiwa being mentioned as favorable.
