To support continued Mission delivery, solidify the gains and build on the progress we have made so far, we are pleased to announce the following appointments within Financial Services Cluster, effective 9th June 2025:
Tribe Lead – Commercial Growth:
Victor Ngumo has been appointed as Tribe Lead – Commercial Growth. Reporting to the Chief Financial Services Officer, Victor will be responsible for formulating and executing our Merchant and Agent strategy as well as driving overall revenue growth through effective management of our agent, dealer and merchant channels.
Victor is a seasoned commercial leader with over 20 years of progressive experience across Telecoms, Financial Services, Consumer and Business Marketing, and Commercial Strategy. He is no stranger to Safaricom, having enjoyed a successful 17-year career with us from 2005 to 2022, when he left to partner with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to enable their Digital Financial Services across Africa. Victor rejoins us from Airtel Africa where he was the Director, Sales & Distribution – Kenya.
During his tenure with Safaricom, Victor held various senior leadership roles including heading the Terminals, Regional Business, and SME Segments. He was also one of the pioneering managers behind M-PESA and played a key role in launching several innovative products.
Victor holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Marketing from Daystar University, a Chartered Marketing Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK), and has completed the Senior Management Leadership Program at Strathmore Business School.
Tribe Lead – Payments:
Arthur Gichuru has been appointed as Tribe Lead –Payments. Reporting to the Chief Financial Services Officer, Arthur will be responsible for the development, positioning and commercialization of our payment products and solutions as we continuously look to scale our M-PESA value propositions.
Arthur is a fintech leader with over 20 years of progressive experience in banking, payments, digital lending, and mobile money. He joins us from Diamond Trust Bank, where, as Chief Manager – Retail Digital Banking, he led the mobile banking, internet banking, and digital lending franchises.
Previously, Arthur spent eight years at LOOP DFS, the digital subsidiary of NCBA Bank, as Chief Product Officer and Chief Commercial Officer. Notably, Arthur played a pivotal role in building and growing transformative nano savings and credit products such as M-Shwari and Fuliza, in partnership with Safaricom.
In addition, Arthur previously worked here at Safaricom between 2014 and 2016 as a Senior Manager within our Financial Services Cluster, where he contributed to M-PESA’s strategic growth during a period of rapid expansion.
Arthur holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Kenyatta University and is currently pursuing an MSc in Blockchain & Digital Currency at the University of Nicosia. He is also certified in digital marketing, product growth, and monetization strategies.
Victor Odada, who has been our Tribe Lead – Payments since September 2023 is considering a new role within Financial Services, and we shall communicate once these discussions are concluded.
