Philip Kinisu book launch highlighted his lifelong commitment to integrity, mentorship, and excellence in Kenya’s accounting profession.

“The Interrupted Accountant,” a new autobiography by the former EACC chairman Philip Kinisu, continues to draw attention following its recent launch in Nairobi. The book’s promotion which began with a Club Night at the Muthaiga Golf Club saw attendance of more than 100 golfers, senior accountants, and corporate leaders who gathered to celebrate Kinisu’s career and immense contributions to the accounting profession.

Leading the tributes, Muthaiga Golf Club Captain Eric Malonza described Kinisu as a professional who has demonstrated integrity and consistency throughout his decades long tenure in public service. His transparancy and commitment in the fight against corruption set him apart as one of the country’s respected figures in Kenya’s governance.

The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) Chairperson, CPA Prof. Elizabeth Kalunda Muvui, also spoke at the event, applauding Kinisu for being a strong advocate of good governance and for setting high standards in accounting practice. She encouraged him to apply for the Fellow Certified Public Accountant (FCPA) designation, a title reserved for members who have held ICPAK membership for at least ten years with exceptional leadership and contribution to the profession. The recognition is among the most respected honors in Kenya’s accounting community.

Kinisu’s career spans more than 35 years, having served as Africa Board Chairman of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he guided the firm’s regional growth and greatly strengthen professional standards. Many of the accountants he worked with at PwC speak of his mentorship and his steady leadership during times of significant change in the industry. He also taught at Strathmore University between the mid-1980s and early 1990s, a period during which he shaped the minds of young accountants who have gone on to become leaders in finance, academia, and public service.

Published by Free Press Publishers, “The Interrupted Accountant,”, tells Kinisu’s story from humble beginnings in Malaha village, Bungoma County, to his rise as one of Kenya’s top accountants. The book also explores his love for golf, family, and his reflections on public service and retirement. The softcover edition retails for KSh2,500/- while the hardcover sells for KSh3,000/-.

Kinisu has said that writing the book was both rewarding and challenging. Some chapters were admittedly difficult for him to write because they forced him to confront not onlypersonal experiences that shaped his outlook on life, but leadership too. He chose honesty over comfort, insisting that authenticity was the only way to make the book meaningful to readers.

The launch event brought together respected professionals and public figures, among them Central Bank of Kenya Governor Kamau Thugge. The evening ended with Kinisu signing copies of his book and engaging warmly with guests who came to celebrate his journey.

“The Interrupted Accountant” offers an inside look into the life of a man who has seen the profession evolve over decades. It stands as both a personal reflection and a historical record of the accounting field in Kenya through the eyes of one of its most accomplished practitioners.
