The third 2023 cohort of accomplished African women who will join the flagship program of the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development (EJS Center), the Amujae Initiative, was unveiled at the Mo Ibrahim Foundation conference in Nairobi last weekend. Through its unique platform, the EJS Center offers coaching and mentorship to women leaders across the African continent. This initiative is greatly beneficial for the new wave of women in public leadership positions in Africa.

Comprised of 12 women leaders from 10 different countries spanning the African continent, the third cohort of the Amujae Initiative features individuals holding various positions such as current government ministers, members of parliament, senior government advisors, and activists committed to causes such as economic development, gender equality, and youth empowerment.

The exceptional group of women leaders in the third cohort of the Amujae Initiative will further expand upon the groundwork laid by the first two groups of Amujae Leaders. These individuals will receive support from a distinguished team of Amujae Coaches, which includes former heads of state and leaders of international institutions. The coaches will provide guidance and insight based on their invaluable experience in public leadership.

The Amujae Initiative was founded by former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to enhance the capacity and effectiveness of women in public leadership, encouraging these women to aspire to the highest positions, strengthen ties among a growing, experienced, and capable network of women in public leadership, and positively influencing public perception of women in leadership across Africa.

African women leaders get to be part of the Amujae Leadership through response to an application once the EJS Center issues an invite for a new cohort. The Applications are from women in public service, and the selection process ensures all applicants get assessed before being confirmed as an Amujae Leader. The Women leaders selected from across the continent, from diverse backgrounds, all have the similarity of having a track record of achievements in public life and a shared passion for uplifting African women, girls, and the African continent.

The confirmed Amujae Leaders are indeed, found as indicated by Oley Dibba-Wadda, Interim EJS Center Executive Director. The leaders will continue to get training, coaching, mentorship, and networking with one another and their Amujae coaches. Some of the Former Presidents who are Amujae Coaches include; President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President Joyce Banda, and President Catherine Samba-Panza.
