Jubilee Life Insurance has launched the 2023 Live Free Art Competition at The Green Garden Schools in Kiambu County. The competition will see the best ten participating pupils drawn from various parts of the country awarded with full high school education scholarship worth KES 3 million.

The Live Free Art Competition targets pupils across Kenya between Grade 1 and 4 under the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC). The annual competition, which is now in its third edition, is designed to foster a love for art and to encourage creativity and self-expression among young pupils in both private and public schools.

The 2023 Live Free art competition theme is ‘Celebrating Jubilant Moments’. Participating pupils will be required to submit original artworks illustrating their understanding of the theme in various mediums including painting, drawing, collage or mixed media. Participants will be allowed to use watercolours, coloured pencils, crayons, charcoal, ink or any other locally available material.

While speaking during the launch of the art competition, Jubilee Life Insurance General Manager -Retail Life & Pensions Wilbroda Odera noted that art provides a platform for children to express their emotions and to refine their fine motor skills.

“We are excited to launch the third edition of the Jubilee Live Free Art Competition. We believe that art plays a critical role in the development of young minds, nurturing cognitive abilities such as creativity, problem solving, logical reasoning and self-expression. The art competition will enable young learners across Kenya to demonstrate their artistic prowess and to be recognized for their talents,” said Ms. Odera.

A distinguished team of judges comprising art educators and creative professionals will evaluate submissions based on creativity, originality, technique and artistic clarity. The competition will be divided into two categories (Grade1 & 2 and Grade 3 & 4) to ensure fair judgement on all submissions.

To participate, interested pupils must submit their artwork and duly completed entry form between Monday, 24th July 2023 and Friday, 8th September 2023. The registration form can be downloaded from the company’s website.

The winners will be announced in a special awards ceremony, where their exceptional artworks will be showcased and celebrated. The top ten winning pupils will be awarded high school education scholarship and mentorship through the company’s mentorship program.

While speaking during the event, The Green Gardens Schools  Principal Early Years/Lower School Tr. George Nginyo noted that the art competition is in line with the school’s vision to create a nurturing and supportive academic environment that also promotes art and extra-curricular programs.

“We believe that learners should be exposed to a learning environment that enables them to become all-rounded individuals. The art competition by Jubilee Life Insurance will inspire young artists in different regions across Kenya while empowering them to develop their visual literacy and to showcase their imagination. Our pupils are thrilled to be part of this exciting initiative. I would like to call on teachers, parents and the community at large to encourage young pupils to participate in this competition,” said Tr. Nginyo.

All the artworks should be submitted by hand delivery or couriered to the company’s head office by 8th September 2023. Last year, Jubilee Life insurance received over of 3,200 entries.
