James Mureu from Naivasha has emerged as the overall winner of the NCBA-sponsored Saturday Monthly Mug at Naivasha Sports Club in Nakuru county.
Playing off handicap 6, Mureu, carded an impressive score of 76 Gross at the tourney that brought together over 70 golfers from Naivasha and its environs.
“I want to commend NCBA and the Naivasha Sports Club for the excellent management of this tournament, the weather was favorable and the grounds well-manicured which I believe is why I was able to play some really good golf and convert those blessings into the rewards received today” said James Mureu, Overall winner at the Naivasha Mug Event.
Tabitha Kiragu secured the top prize in the Ladies category with an impressive 36 stableford points, outshining Grace Gathungu, who claimed the 1st runners-up position with 27 points. Gathungu also clinched the Longest Drive Women award. The 2nd runners-up award went to Janet Mwangi after garnering 25 points.
In the Men’s category Boniface Kangangi fended off stiff competition from his fellow clubmate Isaac Kamau emerging the winner with 37 points with a 1-point difference. Jonathan Kiplagat just clinched the 2nd runner-up position from Micheal Mugo with 35 points on countback.
Meanwhile, Margaret Wanjiru secured the Guest’s 1st prize award with 37 points, matching her handicap of 37. Samuel Keigi, who was playing off handicap 31 followed closely, achieving 37 points.

The Naivasha NCBA Monthly Mug tournament marks the 9th edition of this tournament where players from different clubs get to qualify and compete at the NCBA grand finale in December where players can stand a chance to win a cash prize of KSH 100,000 and a variety of trophies and awards. Thus far the tournament has been held in Mombasa, Machakos, Ruiru, Nakuru, Thika, Eldoret and Nyeri.
