Redmi has officially launched another phone into the Kenyan market – the Redmi A3 which we had talked about in an earlier article, describing it as ‘the best gift you can gift someone this April Holiday season’. Retailing at Ksh.11,599/-is it a great entry level device for anyone who wants to transition from a feature phone or from lower-level smartphones.
The device also strikes me as a befitting choice for parents who want to introduce their bigger children into the smartphone life since it has all the features that a young adult would be impressed by. For instance, it has an impressive dual camera system featuring an 8MP back camera and a 5MP selfie camera. The 5MP front camera is equipped with a beautifier that smooths skin tone, and a soft-light ring that brightens selfie shots in low light conditions.
It is also quite a looker with the back featuring a finely crafted camera casing that gives it a sleek classy look. My piece came in midnight black colour with sheen that dances in the light depending on the angle in which the phone is held.
Redmi seems to be going all out to put superior features in people’s palms even at low budgets and the Redmi A3 is a great example of this. It has modern features some of which we can look at right away, and some of which we will look at as we get to use the phone for a few weeks.
Based purely on first impressions, I think the phone’s most outstanding feature is the camera design mentioned above. It immediately stands out and gives the phone an impression of power and attention to detail by the manufacturer. For the price point, I also like the battery which comes in at 5000mAh. Since the device is entry level and does not have many battery hogger apps and functions, this is a battery that will easily go a full day for a heavy user and several days for average users. I will have a better perspective of this when I interact with the phone a bit more.

The device comes in a simple compact packaging in which you’ll fine the phone itself, a SIM ejector tool, manufacturer literature and warranty, a USB cable and a charging brick. I already have a good feeling about this one, bearing in mind that it is an entry level phone and is therefore not difficult to purchase for a lot of people.
